Please note: This therapeutic diet should only be followed under the supervision of a registered dietitian or healthcare provider.

Your diet, like your medication, is an important part of your treatment and is designed to ensure you are safe. Your doctor has ordered a Consistent Carbohydrate diet for you. This is often referred to as a diabetic diet. Carbohydrates have the greatest effect on your blood sugar and need to be balanced with your diabetes medications. While on this diet, you will be served a consistent amount of the following carbohydrates:

  • Breads, cereals, potatoes, pasta, rice, and dry beans
  • Milk and yogurt
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • It is important to control portion sizes, eat a variety of foods, and eat at regular times.

Items with high amounts of carbohydrates or refined sugars may need to be limited to achieve better blood sugar control i.e., sugar sweetened beverages such as regular sodas, high sugar desserts and other foods with higher amounts of added sugar.

  • Panes, cereales, papas, pasta, arroz, y frijoles secos
  • Leche y yogurt
  • Frutas y vegetales
