Earth Day is every day at Compass Group. Sustainability is deeply rooted within our organization, from our talented chefs and passionate operators to our inspiring leadership team. In ways both big and small, we celebrate nature’s bounty and inspire conversation and action around the preservation of our planet.
One of the simplest and most impactful ways to prevent climate change is to reduce food waste. With a third of all food produced globally wasted every year, we all have a role in tackling this major issue. When we waste food, we also waste all the energy and water it takes to grow, harvest, transport, and package it, compounding the environmental impacts. Yet no one ever wants to waste food. Most of us are just unaware, having no idea of our food waste’s impact on our environment.
As a company of chefs passionate about serving delicious healthy food, we set out to use our scale, passion, and expertise to do our part. Our goal is to raise awareness of this food waste problem, with our global day of action Stop Food Waste Day, and provide real-world solutions, from our kitchen to yours, to help reduce it. We’re also expanding our use of technology across our operations to understand our food waste footprint better while working in partnership with our clients and suppliers to halve food waste across our global operations by 2030.
So this Earth Day, I ask you to join us in our fight to stop wasted food. It’s easy. You can start by simply going to our website, www.stopfoodwasteday.com, taking our pledge, and then sharing it on social media. Incorporate a new tip a week, such as shopping with a list or using an ice bath to revitalize wilted greens. Find inspiration and make a delicious recipe from The Stop Food Waste Day Cookbook, a digital cookbook that features recipes from 45 Compass Group chefs across more than 30 countries.
No matter how little, every step counts and presents a unique opportunity to engage your community to follow suit. So let’s make every day Earth Day and protect our precious planet together.
